Family Counselling
It’s not just one area of life that feels out of balance, but a combination of issues that contribute to an overall sense of unease, confusion or distress. Patterns repeat themselves and it can be difficult to cope with the inevitable challenges of life using unhelpful, yet familiar belief systems and reactions.
Sometimes we need to find exceptions to our problematic story and in doing so ascribe new meaning and purpose to our circumstances. The smallest changes can often bring about the greatest results especially in terms of how we see ourselves and others.
No issue is too big or too small to get support. You may have a longstanding concern, be facing new challenges or simply feel like something isn’t quite right. In every instance.
Counsellors aim to help by:
-
Creating a safe, non-judgmental space
-
Being an impartial person who you can share your thoughts and feelings
-
Assist you to gain a clearer understanding of your situation
-
Offering a different perspective of the issue or problem
-
Utilizing evidence-based psychological interventions to improve your coping skills
-
Offering advice and information on support and services available.

Families evolve over time, bringing new types of relationships and challenges. Being part of a stable and happy family can foster a fulfilling sense of belonging in adults, adolescents and children.
Families often find themselves entrenched in patterns of destructive, which cause pain and misunderstanding, resulting in negative interaction, resentfulness and separateness.
Research shows that healthy family relationships can improve our general outlook on life, physiological resilience and sense of well-being.
Through counselling, self-reflection and the exploration of our extended family system, it is possible for individuals to continue to maintain both physical and emotional relationships with their extended family.
Understanding any ‘outstanding issues’ when it comes to family and taking steps to resolve them, helps us to maintain psychological separateness, while giving us the ability to function independently even if our attitudes and opinions differ.
