Adolescent Counselling
Adolescence is one of the most important stages of human development. It is about creating an identity, an image. It is a time for recognizing one’s strengths, weaknesses and roles within our family and our extended peer group.
During the teenage years and our journey to adulthood, young people face many physical psychological, emotional and relationship changes. Characterized by our disengagement from parents and an the intense emotional pressures the adolescent can experience a period of loss and confusion. The reality of losing the carefree existence of childhood and taking on the responsibilities of adulthood, can when combined with the biological and emotional changes puberty brings, have the potential to produce significant behavioral changes.
Counselling helps teenagers to develop a positive self image and to feel safe, while helping them to develop respectful, loving relationships with their family and peers.
Relationship Counselling
Being in a relationship can have a profoundly positive effect on your sense of self and well-being. People in healthy relationships tend to live longer and experience less physical, emotional and mental health issues. Conversely, being in a relationship beset by problems can have a crippling effect on one’s self-esteem and capacity to live life to the full.
Each relationship presents unique circumstances and challenges, particularly when there are different personalities and value systems involved. Sometimes we are not aware of the part we play in relationships, until we notice patterns of behaviour keep re-occurring. Many escape feelings of abandonment by clinging onto relationships which are unfulfilling and destructive.
Without acknowledging how we feel, we can become passive aggressive, vengeful, or be abusive in order to discharge our feelings. We can become angry at our partner to escape the feeling of rejection or unworthiness. The way we escape our feelings can sabotage our relationships. Closeness, communication and commitment are the keys to authentic intimacy
Together, we will help you to identify key areas for change and learn practical tools to help you to create a mutually beneficial, rewarding relationship with your partner, family and friends.
