CHILD COUNSELLING
Childhood is a period of rapid development and intense change. Young people are confronted with a bewildering array of physical, emotional and psychological developmental changes. This can be a relatively smooth, or even exciting process of transitions for some, yet for others, the challenges encountered can seem overwhelming.
Young children frequently find it difficult to regulate their emotions and articulate the complexity of what they are feeling. From temper tantrums to social withdrawal, and concerning behavioural issues such as biting and bedwetting, young children regularly express their distress in worrying ways.
As older children develop, they may struggle with interpersonal conflicts such as sibling rivalry, or social problems as a result of being bullied. Isolation, anger, anxiety and depression are commonly reported issues that pre-teens face as they navigate their way into adolescence amongst their peer group.
ADOLESCENT COUNSELLING
Adolescence is one of the most important stages of human development. It is about creating an identity, an image. It is a time for recognizing one’s strengths, weaknesses and roles within our family and our extended peer group.
During the teenage years and our journey to adulthood, young people face many physical, psychological, emotional and relationship changes.
Characterized by our disengagement from parents and intense emotional pressures the adolescent can experience a period of loss and confusion.
The reality of losing the carefree existence of childhood and taking on the responsibilities of adulthood, can when combined with the biological and emotional changes puberty brings, have the potential to produce significant behavioral changes.
Counselling helps teenagers to develop a positive self image and to feel safe, while helping them to develop respectful, loving relationships with their family and peers.
